This cyclist always recorded their rides - even when things seemed uneventful. That all changed after a recent incident.
“There were no issues before the incident. But now I’m glad I always had the camera running.”
While the incident has been reported, there has been no outcome yet. Still, the rider hopes sharing it on UpRide can help raise awareness.
“Hopefully it may reduce the number of issues on the road.”
When asked about the most important safety improvements, the rider pointed to increasing driver awareness - and enforcing key safety gear.
“Lights and helmets should be mandatory. And people need to be more aware of cyclists.”
They feel most vulnerable on main single carriageway roads, where space is limited and driver impatience is common.
Their advice to others?
“Stay safe. And always record your rides.”
Why Recording Matters
It's hard to believe some of the crazy behaviour that happens on the road, the best defence is crystal clear video that leaves no room for debate.
You know the type. “I’m sure they wouldn’t have done that” or “No-one would be that stupid” … except, unfortunately, we know different.
As well as stopping another ‘he-said, she-said’ defence dead in its tracks, having video evidence helps everyone understand the how and why of those “what-the-hell-just-happened” moments.
When things go wrong, video gives you the power to show exactly what happened. And when drivers know they might be recorded, they’re more likely to think twice before making a dangerous choice.Feel safe. Record your ride.
