Alan was on his usual commute to work, a route he has ridden almost every day for the past five years without incident. He was in the bike lane, a space intended to give cyclists a safer place on the road.

That changed in an instant when a truck turned suddenly across his lane. The driver didn’t see him. But Alan’s Fly12 bike camera did.

He records every ride, not because he expects something to go wrong, but because, like many cyclists, he understands that sometimes things just do.

Two local police officers arrived at the scene, took statements, and provided a case number. Alan later submitted his Fly12 footage to help with the investigation. As of now, he’s recovering with only minor bruises and light damage to his bike. He’s not pursuing compensation, but the footage ensures he could if he needed to.

Why Recording Matters

While most drivers do the right thing, distracted or careless driving remains a serious issue, and one Alan believes should come with real consequences. Video footage plays a growing role in those conversations.
As cycling popularity continues to increase all over the world, so do the combined dangers of congested roads, poor cycling infrastructure and bad behaviour towards vulnerable road users.

After one close encounter too many on the roads of Perth, Western Australia, Cycliq founder Kingsley Fiegert decided that enough was enough.
