Logging Truck Prosecuted and Fined From Video Evidence

Mark’s Story – Mount Hood Parkdale, Oregon

Mark was riding with his partner near Mount Hood, Oregon, when a logging truck passed them dangerously close. But this wasn’t carelessness — it was deliberate. A clear act of aggression that could have ended in tragedy.

Fortunately, Mark had his front-facing Fly12 bike camera recording the entire incident.

“The Oregon State Police went through the video frame by frame and found the license plate number, even though it was covered with mud,” said Mark.

The footage didn’t just tell the story — it proved it. So much so that police and prosecutors took swift action.

The driver was charged with menacing and reckless endangerment. While one charge was later dropped to allow him to continue working, the penalties were serious:

  • Mandatory anger management course
  • Community service hours
  • Victim restitution payments
  • A formal letter of apology
  • Multiple court appearances — including long drives to the county court
  • Likely increases in legal fees and insurance premiums

All of this from a decision that lasted just seconds — but had lasting consequences.

Why Recording Matters

Mark’s footage was submitted to the authorities and became the key piece of evidence. The case officer noted it would have been difficult to take any action without it.

When things go wrong, video gives you the power to show exactly what happened. And when drivers know they might be recorded, they’re more likely to think twice before making a dangerous choice.
